Still lifes are fun to put together and paint but they are starting to get stale to me. Part of it is that I don't have any new objects to paint.. Been thinking a lot about creating paintings with more meaning and such - also some landscapes. I've been trying out a few different kinds of paint, have some interesting reviews coming in the next few weeks, stay tuned. Hope you are doing well!
This is one of my favorites of the year so far. It may not be my most realistic work but it definitely says something. I used the dark backdrop here but it was mostly in light, so I painted it that way. I'm able to get the grey quite easily by mixing transparent red iron oxide [burnt sienna could work too] with cobalt blue - from there I can make it more red, yellow or blue or whatever color grey. I experimented with different brushes on this one as well, used some softer synthetic-haired brushes. Going to experiment some more but seems like I will use them a lot more in the future for sure, so much easier to use.
