Greeting the Giants

For many years now, I’ve been hugely inspired by forests and trees. I moved to California in late 2013 and shortly after, I discovered the beauty of redwood trees and forests. These forests have brought me much peace and have inspired my paintings and art for 10 years now. I never seem to get tired of painting them and attempting to convey their beauty and sense of light. I’m always looking for new ways to convey that feeling of being in the forest, under the canopy and walking amongst the giants bathed in dappled light.

This particular painting depicts a scene from a forest in Marin county named Roy’s Redwoods. These trees are right near the entrance to the forest, next to the road. I’ve greeted them many times in the past and painted them a few times from different angles and lighting scenarios. They’ve been around for hundreds of years and I’m sure they’ll be there a while longer. I know they’ll continue to inspire my paintings as long as I’m still painting.
